ABSTRACT:

The kinetic investigations of the oxidation of glycine by potassium permanganate in the presence of anionic surfactant. Sodium dodecyl sulphate (NaDS) have been conducted at 30oC in moderately concentrated acidic media of sulphuric acid. The rate shows a first order dependence on each, oxidant substrate and surfactant Using different salts the salt effect at higher concentration range and specific ionic effects have been studied in the presence of the surfactant. A new linear equation relating ionic strength and the velocity constant has been found applicable to many cases of the salts. Relative effectivity series in the cases of the cations and anions have been put forth. The reaction was carried out at different concentrations of sulphuric acid and the rate has been correlated with the acidity functions and the applicability of Zucker - Hammett and Bunnett hypotheses has been tested. The reaction was studied at different temperatures and values of different kinetic and activation parameters have been computed. A pertinent mechanism has been suggested and discussed at length from various view points.
