ABSTRACT:

Reactions of sodium molybdate with dithiocarbazic acid (dtCz), phenyl dithiocarbazic acid (PhdtCz) and S-methyl dithiocarbazate (dtCzMe) yield Mo (VI) complexes Of general composition MoO2 (L)2. The same reactions carried out io the presence of an excess of sodium dithionite resulted in the formation of Mo (V) complexes, Mo2O3 (dtCz)4, Mo2O3 (PhdtCz)4 and Mo2O4 (dtCzMe)2. Infrared bands assignable to M-S absorption were found in the range 460-515cm-1 region and the dimeric Mo (V) complexes showed a band at about 435 cm-1 due to Mo-O-Mo stretching mode. Because of the presence of two Mc=O bands at about 900 cm-1, it is concluded that Mo (VI) complexes contain a cis O=Mo=O group. Infrared spectra also revealed that dcprotonation of sec. NH group occurs in Mo (V) complexes. The bonding in all the complexes occurs through hydrazine nitrogen atom and thiolosulphure in the ester and thiocarboxylate group in the dtCz and PhdtCz.
