ABSTRACT:

The polarographic reduction of some o- amino acetophenone benzoylhydrazone derivatives is Studied in 40 % N,N' dimethylformamide Britton-Robinson buffers at the DME. In acidic media the reduction occurs along one irreversible 4-eIectron wave which corresponds to the sanitation and cleavage of the >C=N center. In alkaline media the reduction takes place through one 2-electron wave corresponding to the saturation of the >C=N only. The NO2 group present as one of the derivatives in the electrode reaction are reduced to the amine group. The electrode reaction, nature of waves and the reduction process are discussed.
