ABSTRACT:

There is considerable interest in the stereochemistry of N-alkylimines especially on the study of E/Z isomer distribution and the factors governing isomer ratio, such as steric, electronic, solvent and temperature effects. This review covers, the available data for a series of imines (1) and is based on the recent reports utilizing 1H NMR techniques. R1= Aryl group; R1 R2=Aryl or Alkyl group C=N ~ R3 and R3=Alkyl group R2 The equilibrium distribution of E/Z isomerization of N-alkylimines has been found to be very sensitive to steric and the electronic factor. The solvent and temperature effects play a considerable role in determining the equilibria positions.
