ABSTRACT:

The Schiff bases 5-methyl2-hydroxyacetophenonemorpholine-N-thiohydrazide, 5-methyl2-hydroxyacetophenoneantipyrine,5chloro2hydroxyacetophenonemorpholine-N-thiohydrazone has reacted with V(III) and VO(IV) to form co-ordination compounds having general formula [V (C14H19O2N3S) 3H2O]Cl; [VO (C14H19O2N3S) 2H2O] , [V (C20H20N3O2) 2] Cl; [VO((C20H20N3O2)2]; [V(C14H19O2N3SCl)3H2O]Cl and;[VO(C14H19O2N3SCl)2H2O]respectively.Where M=V (III) and VO (IV). The adducts have been characterized on the basis of elemental analyses molar conductance, I.R , visible spectra, magnetic susceptibility measurement and TGA. The ligands behave in dibasic tridentate manner in 5-methyl2-hydroxyacetophe nonemorpholine-N-thiohydrazone and 5-chloro2-hydroxyacetophenonemorpholine-Nthiohydrazone.While5methyl2hydroxy acetophenoneantipyrine behaves in monobasic tridentate manner. All these compounds are paramagnetic in nature and have octahedral geometry.
