ABSTRACT:

The kinetics of the bromination of o-acetotoludide by bromine in aqueous medium has been studied voltametrically. The specific reaction rate is 1.78 M-1S-1 at 25.0 OC. The energy of activation is 59.8 KJ mol-1. The entropy of activation is -132.7 J mol-1K-1. The specific reaction rate is influenced by added bromide ion and the specific reaction rate, energy of activation and entropy of activation are 54.7 M-1S-1, 25.8 KJmol-1 and -133.4 Jmol-1K-1respectively. The most likely mechanism has been suggested.
