ABSTRACT:

The concentration of heavy metals such as Cr, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Cs, Ba, Pb, were studied in soils of kazipally and Bollaram imdustrial area, Hyderabad to understand heavy metal contamination due to industrialization and urbanization. This area is affected by the industrial activities, paint, plastic, chemical and bulk drug industries routinely dump their waste into the stream and surrounding areas. The assessment of the contamination of the soil was based on the geo-accumulation index, enrichment factor(EF), contamination factor, and degree of contamination. The samples were collected from surrounding areas from top 10-20 cm layer of soil. The samples were analyzed using ICP-MS in National Geo-physical Research Institute, Hyderabad. The data revealed that the soil in the study area are highly contaminated showing high level of toxic elements than normal distribution.
