ABSTRACT:

Emblica officinalis Gaertn. Syn. Phyllanthus emblica Linn. commonly known as Amla (Indian goose berry) is an important member of family Euphorbiaceae, known for the presence of vitamin C. It finds extensive use in Indian system of medicine such as Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani. The medicinal properties attributed to this plant include alexiteric, carminative, laxative, and antipyretic, preventive, curative and health restorative functions. Apart from these, it is also a very useful and important constituent of various marketed herbal drugs used for various ailments. The phytochemical investigation of Phyllanthus emblica showed a of important phytochemicals such as carotenoids, saponins, glycosides, antioxidants, etc. reported from the plant. In this paper we are reporting the isolation and characterization of four phytochemical constituents from ethylacatate extract of flowering twigs.
