ABSTRACT:

In the present work complexes of Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) with Schiff base 6-bromo 2-thio-3-phenyl quinazoline-4 (3H) one semicarbazone (BTPQS) have been prepared and were characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, IR, electronic spectral studies, magnetic susceptibility and molar conductance data. On the basis of above observations the ligand BTPQS have been proposed to act in a tridentate manner, coordinating to the metal ion through the azomethine nitrogen, oxygen atom of semicarbazone moiety and bromine atom of the ligand. The complexes were octahedral structures. The prepared compounds were screened for their antifungal activity against A. niger and C. albicans. Molar conductance data indicates the complexes were found to be electrolytic in nature of 1:2 type.
