ABSTRACT:

The objective of the present study is to find an effective adsorbent for pollution caused by SO2 in air. The experiments for adsorption of SO2 were carried by waste material gypsum and dolomite, a mineral of calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate. In the present study the effect of the temperature on the adsorption process is analyzed. The experiments were conducted at three different temperatures. In case of gypsum the experiments were conducted at 280C, 400C, 500C. In case of dolomite the experiments were conducted at 400C, 600C, 800C. Adsorption of SO2 by dolomite followed Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The adsorption capacity of SO2 by dolomite increased from 400c to 600c and decreased at 800c.In case of adsorption of SO2 by gypsum followed Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms at low temperatures ie 280c and lines in the figure are deviated from linearity indicating the intensity and capacity of adsorption decreased with increase in temperature.
