ABSTRACT:

New complexes of the type MM'(SCN)4 (BENEN)x, (M = Co2+, Ni2+, M' = Cd2+, Hg2+); BENEN = N,N'-Bis(benzylidene)-1,2-ethylenediamine and x =1 or 2 have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, molar conductance, magnetic moment, IR, 1H-NMR and electronic spectral studies. The softness parameters, DTEn# of the probable and alternative structure have also been calculated to derive the binding site of the thiocyanato ligand. The complexes have also been investigated for insecticidal activity against Red cotton bug (Dysdercus koenigii). Complexes are found more potent than Schiff base.
