ABSTRACT:

Some bis-(5-hydroxy-4(5-aryl 3-isoxazolyl) 1-phenoxy) methanes and bis (5-hydroxy-4-(1-phenyl-5-aryl-3-pyrazolyl) 1-phenoxy)-methanes were synthesised by refluxing bis-(5-hydroxy-4(3-aryl-propane 1,3-dionyl) 1-phenoxy) methanes (III) with hydroxylamine hydrochloride and phenylhydrazine hydrochloride in pyridine medium respectively. The compounds have been screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activites against pathogenic bacteria and fungi such as S. aureus P. Vulgaris, E. Coli, Fusarium and A. niger. The identities of these new compounds have been established on the basis of usual chemical transformations and IR, NMR spectral substitute.
