ABSTRACT:

A simple, sensitive and precise spectrophotometric method has been developed for the estimation of resveratrol in Polygonum cuspidatum (Polygonaceae) root extracts and dosage forms. The method utilizes the blue coloured chromogen of resveratrol with Folin-Ciocalteu reagent in alkaline medium with an absorption maximum at 745 nm. The chromogen obeys Beer's law in the concentration range 1-7mg/ml. The linear regression analysis data for the calibration plot for resveratrol showed good linear relationship with a correlation coefficient 0.9968. The proposed method is reproducible and statistically validated and recoveries range from 97.47% - 98.53%.
