ABSTRACT:

Kinetics of oxidation of Diethanolamine (DEA) with Bi(V) fluoride complex has been studied in HCIO4-HF mixture. The reaction is first order with respect to each reactant. No effect of [H+], [HF] and [NaF] on the reaction rate observed, while ionic strength has-negative effect on the reaction rate. The mode of electron transfer from the substrate to the oxidant has been indicated via a bridged outer sphere mechanism.
