ABSTRACT:

A series of new 4-aryl-3-chloro-1-(r-5-methylisoxazol-3-yl sulphonamido phenyl)-2-azetidinones (3a-l) have been synthesized by cyclisation of substituted benzal r-5-methyl isoxazol-3-yl-sulphonamido anilines (2a-l) with chloroacetyl chloride in presence of triethyl amine. The physical and spectral data of synthesised compounds are determined. The synthesised compounds have been screened for their in vitro antimicrobial activity against various strains of bacteria and fungi.
