ABSTRACT:

The present paper reports the solubilization action of surfactants on 8-Anilinophthalein-1-Sulphonic acid (8-ANSA). It has been studied with the help of fluorescence-spectroscopy. The fluorescence peak height at lem 515 nm increased on increasing the concentration of the surfactant solution. A hypsochromic shift in the emission peak wavelength also occurred. The solubilization phenomenon was also confirmed by absorption spectral studies and light scattering measurements. The fluorescence quantum yields of 8-ANSA was also measured in different concentration of the surfactants, using anthracene as the fluorescence standard. The results have been attributed to the action of micelle formation of the surfactant.
