ABSTRACT:

Complexes of g-picolinium phenycylide semicarbazone/thiosemicarbazone (PPSC/PPTSC=L1 and L2) with bivalent metal ion of composition [M(L1,2)2]X2, M=Co(II) and Ni(II), X=Cl-, Br- and I- have been synthesized and characterised using physico chemical and spectroscopic data. The ligands were found to be neutral tridentate chelating agent for the metal ions and the complexes are found to be octahedral in geometry. The ligands as well as complexes were treated for their antimicrobial activities against to bacteria viz., Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli and two fungi, Candida albicans and Aspergillus flavus. Metal complexes have been found to show an appreciable increase in their antimicrobial activities in comparison to ligands.
