ABSTRACT:

To investigate potential of some cellulose graft copolymers with respect to the structural aspects of graft copolymer chains as new membrane materials, sorption studies of Fe+2 ions from aqueous solution of FeS04 have been studied. Sorption of metal Ions by graft copolymers is dependent on method of synthesis, especially, mode of initiation of graft copolymer and on graft level. It has been observed that metal ion sorption by graft copolymers synthesized by gamma radiation initiation, sorb almost two tomes more ione as compared to the graft copolymer synthesized by persulphate redox system initiation. Copolymers having binary monomer unite grafted, sorb less than those which has onty poly(Sty) grafted onto. Possible reasons have been forwarded to explain selectivity of Fe+2 ions to count for such behaviour of graft copolymers.
