The Synthesis of Electrically Conductive Polythiophenes by Simultaneous Use of Catalysts (A Comparative Study)

ABSTRACT:

The object of this research was to compare the efficiency of two catalytic systems (single and double) for preparation of polythiophene polymers, and Investigation of their electrical conductivities. Polythiophene and poly(3-methylthiophene) were prepared by chemical means using FeCI3, MoCI5 and a mixture of FeCI3 - MoCI5 as catalysts. Polymers prepared with FeCl3 were conductive before the doping, while with MoCI5 or the mixture of FeCI3 and MoCl5, polymers are conductive only after the doping.
