ABSTRACT:

Nanocomposite of anionic clay-dye of Mg-AI layered double hydroxide-Evan's blue system was synthesised by microwave-assisted and conventional methods. X-ray diffractograms confirmed the occurrence of the intercalation process of the dye in Mg-AI-hydroxides interlayer by both methods and form new nanocomposite material of around 9.1 and 8.5 A stack of layers, for conventional and microwave-assisted method, respectively. Such layer spaces indicated that the dye molecule is possibly arranged parallel to the Mg-Al-hydroxide layers. UV-visible study showed that the dye content in the layers was estimated to be around(1-4) percent for both methods, depending on the aging time and concentration. Deintercalation of the dye from the nanocomposite was found to be possible by using nitric acid. FTIR study also confirmed that the nanocomposites were formed by both methods of preparation. No significant different in the morphology of the samples prepared by both methods that can be clearly observed by scanning electron microscope.
