ABSTRACT:

The Fourier Transform Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer signals are generally shown as per the Fourier Spectrum. In this, a recent development in time frequency signal analysis, known as the Gabor Transform, is employed for showing spectra from the Spectrometer signals. There are several interesting observations made on such spectra, and it appears that this Gabor Spectral presentation is the ideal one for the same. Taking the data from the spectrometer Free induction decay (F.I.D.) signals, extensive programs have been written and the spectral presentations for some chemicals made. The inferences given are indicative of the advantages of the Gabor technique. Localised spectra upto eight could be obtained from one set of F.I.D. data for a particular chemical. Time constant information and location of combined CH,CH2 peaks in 13C spectra were possible. The paper describes the method in short and gives examples of the inferences made from typical chemicals.
