ABSTRACT:

Investigations on the larvicidal properties of the stem bark and roots of the Malaysian Goniothalamus andersonii have led to the isolation of several pure compounds which are Dioactive on the larvae of Aedes aegypti. One oxoaporphine liriodenme (1), one phenanthrene lactam aristolactam Bll (2) and four styrlpyrone derivatives (+)-goniothalamin (3), (+)-goniothalamin epoxide (4), (+)-goniodiol(5) and (-)-iso-5-deoxygoniopypyrone (6) were isolated. (1), (2) and (3) were present in the roots of G. andersonii while (3), (4), (5) and (6) were isolated from the stem bark. (1), (2), (4), (5) and (6) have not been reported to be present in G. andersonii.
