ABSTRACT:

Brominatlon of 3-alkyl/benzyl-4-hydroxycarbostyril (I) with anhydrous cupric bromide or phenyl trimethyl ammonium perbromide (PTAB) affords 3-bromo derivatives (lla-h) (lle-h) have been conveniently converted to 3-benzylidenequinol-2, 4-diome IIIe-h).
