ABSTRACT:

Friedel-Crafts polyketones have been synthesized from m-chloroanisole, chloroacetylchloride, 1,2-dichloroethane and dichloromethane using anhydrous aluminium chloride as catalyst and carbon disulphide as solvent under different experimental conditions. IR spectroscopy of the synthesized resin* indicated the pretence of carbonyl and chloride groups in the resin back-bones. From Therm ogravimetry and Differential Scanning Calorimetry it has been concluded that the resins showed the moderate thermal stability. For the evaluation of biocidal properties, all the resins were tested against bacteria, fungi and yeast. The results showed that almost all the polyketones have good biocidal properties and they can be used as biocides for various applications.
