ABSTRACT:

A chemical study was earned out on the effect of industrial effluents on the surface and ground water quality surrounding Mandideep Industrail area (Diet Raisen), M.P. with special reference to Nitrogen Content, Ammonical nitrogen, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate and pH were analysed in water samples from river, tube wells and dugwells of 5 villages from 14 sampling stations on river Betwa. The water samples were collected at monthly periodicity from March 1995 to October. 1995. The result indicate that all the parameters analysed except nitrate content were as per ISI 10500 in ground water 85% of the sample analysed showed nitrate content within the permissible limit. The water quality of Betwa river monitored at various points indicates that the parameters are well within the norms prescribed in ISI 2296 at many stations.
