ABSTRACT:

Redington's method was applied to study the molecular force constants of trigonal bipyramidal XYS molecules belonging to D point group and using these force constants mean-amplitudes of vibration and centrifugal distortion constants were also evaluatedgh. Gillespie's Valence Shell Electron Pair Repulsion theory and the available experimental values of mean-amplitudes of vibration support the frequency assignment of E' species m which the axial bending frequency is considered to be larger than the equatorial in-plane bending frequency. The change in assignment also influences tie values of centrifugal distortion constants.
