ABSTRACT:

Polycrystalline samples with the general formula La1.8Ca0.20Cu1-yMnyO4, y=0.0, 0.10, 0.15, 0.20 have been synthesized and their structural and magnetotransport properties have been studied. Polycrystalline samples were prepared by usual solid state reaction method to keep the cation in desired valence states. Powder X-ray diffraction shows these samples are single phase. The anomalous change in the lattice parameters in La1.8Ca0.20Cu1-yMnyO4 have been reported in this paper, which imply the substitution of Cu by Mn influences the microstructure of above system. Scanning Electron Microscopy was done to study the surface morphology. Positive magnetoresistance is observed for La1.8Ca0.20Cu0.85Mn0.15O4.
