Spectrophotometric method has been developed for the determination of copper(II) using 4-Chlorobenzaldehyde semicarbazone as a reagent. This reacts with Cu(II) giving a brown coloured complex which can be quantitatively extracted into chloroform at pH 7.2-8.0. Molar absorptivity at 388 nm is 2.3x104. Beer’s Law is obeyed in the range 0.1 ppm to 10 ppm. The present method has been used for analysis of Cu (II) in the samples of milk.
