ABSTRACT:

The oxidation of methyl, ethyl, n- propyl, n-butyl and iso-butyl alcohols by eerie sulphate has been stutied and the reaction was found to be catalysed in the presence of Ir (III). The oxidation of these alcohols follows first order kinetics with respect to [(Ce(IV)] and fractional order with respect to [Substrate] and [Ir (III)] A mechanism involving Ir (III)-alcohol complex proposed. Rate constant (k), formation constant (K) and the relevant thermodynamic parameters were evaluated.
