ABSTRACT:

3-Chloro -2 hydroxy -5 methyl acetophenone oxime (CHMAO) forms water insoluble complexes with Copper (II) and Cobalt (II). The chelates are quantitatively adsorbed on microcrystalline naphthalene at room temperature and adsorbed species are dissolved in dimethyl formamide. The Cu (II) and Co (II) are determined at the pH range 4.0-9.0 and 6.5-9.0 at λmax 410 nm respectively. The system obeys Beer's law over the range 4.30-35.50 and 2.40 ppm for Cu (II) and Co (II) respectively. The complexes have molar absorptivity 650 and 1200 mole-1 cm-1 while their sensitivity is 0.09 and 0.055 μcm-1 for 0.001 absorbance for Cu (II) and Co (II) respectively in DMF.
