ABSTRACT:

The photometric determination of trace palladium with N-NaphthylaminothioformyI-N ~O-tolylhydroxylarnine (NATTH) H described. A stable complex formed from palladium and the reagent (NATTH) is rapidly and quantitatively adsorbed on microcrystalline naphthalene at pH 3.5. The adsorbed naphthalene crystals are separated, dried at 65°C and dissolved in DMF. The adnorbance is measured at 410 nm. The molar absorptivity is 0.6 x 105 1. Mol-1 Cm-1 at 410 nm and the sensitivity 0.026 μg of palladium per Cm2 for the absorbance of 0.001. The effect of various parameters, such as amounts of reagent and naphthalene, shaking time, standing time and diverse ions have also been discussed.
