ABSTRACT:

The Kinetics of nitrations of tert-butylbenzene, p-tert-butylchlorobenzenc and p-tert-butylphenol in aqueous sulphuric acid have been determined. Nitration of p-tert-butylphenol takes place at the encounter rate. Nitration of p-tert-butylchlorobenzene is about 10 times slower than that of tert-butylbenzene and tert-butylbenzene is nitrated almost at the same rate as is iso-propylbenzene.
