ABSTRACT:An efficient method for the Biginelli reaction of aldehydes, ethyl acetoacetate and urea employing mercuric chloride as catalyst. These improved reaction conditions allow the synthesis of a wide variety of dihydropyrimidinones in excellent yields under mild reaction conditions with simple work up procedure.
