ABSTRACT:

In order to have a deeper understanding of the magnetic and electronic properties of lanthanides, it is important that a good knowledge for a quick and easy method of deriving Russell-Saunders (RS) Terms of fn is mastered. This paper presents a complete derivation of Russell-Saunders Terms of fn configurations using the Partial Terms concept. An outline of the interpretation of magnetic and electronic spectra of lanthanide ions is also presented.
