ABSTRACT:

The free Schiff base macrocycle 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododeca-5,6,11,12-tetraaminomethyl (L) has been synthesized by the reaction of ethylenediamine with oxamidedimethyl. Its complexes with Cr(III), Fe(III) of type [MLCl2]Cl and Mn(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) of type [MLCl2] have been synthesized and characterized by i.r., 1H n.m.r., electronic spectroscopy, elemental analyses, magnetic susceptibility and conductivity measurements. The complexes of divalent metal ions are non electrolytes while those of trivalent metal ions are 1:1 electrolyte and formulated as [MLCl2]Cl. An octahedral geometry has been proposed for all the complexes.
