Synthesis of Some Bis-2-Azetidinones, Bis-4-Thiazolidinones and their Pharmacological Activity

1,4-Bis (hydrazinocarbonylmethoxy) benzene was candensed with different aromatic aldehydes, furnished various 1,4-bis(arylhydrazinocarbonylmethoxy) benzenes (3a-g) in good yields. These on treatment with chloroacetyl chloride, phenylacetyl chloride and thioglycolic acid gave 1,4-bis(3 chloro- 4-aryl-2-azetidinon-1-yl-carbomylmethoxy) benzene (4a-g) and 1,4-bis (2-phenyl-4-thiazolidinon-3- y1-methoxy)benzene (6a-g) respectively. Most of the compounds have been evaluated for diyretic activity against standard drug acetazolamide.
