Abstract:

Studies on the toxicity of some N-substituted carbazoles with piperine and piperic acid on mosquito larvae (Culex sp.) show that N-methyl, N-acetyl and 2,9-diacetyl carbazoles, and also piperine are highly toxic to mosquito larvae, but piperic acid, N-benzoyl carbazole, N-p-nitrobenzoyl carb-azole and carbazole are not so. Hence replacement of NH proton of carbazole by suitable group makes it toxic.
