Abstract:

Picolinic acid hydrazide (PH) and Isonicotinic acid hydrazides (INH) react with acetylacet to give rise to complexes of tetradentate ligands Ac(PH)2 or Ac(INH)2 in the presence of oxoura-nhim, hydroxozirconium and oxovanadium salts. The complexes are isolated and characterised on the basis of electronic, infra-red and e. s. r, spectral data. Oxouranium cation (UO22+) remains as such during, the reaction while oxozirconium (ZrO2+) is converted into Zr4+species. The ligand Ac(PH)2 coordinates through pyridine and azomethine nitrogens, while Ac(INH)2 does so through azomethine nitrogens and amide oxygens and yield complexes of the type [UO 2 (L)] X, [Zr(OH)2 L]X andlVO(L) X] where L is Ac(PH)2 or Ac(INH)2 and X=CI, for oxouranium and hydroxozrrconiua and X=C1, Br NO3, NCS for oxovanadium complexes. The electronic and E. S. R. spectra are consistent with the proposed geometry of the complexes. Various metal-ligand vibrations are discussed.
