M. C. Mehra, R. S. Sindhu* and M. Katyal

Abstract:

Ruthenium (III) reacts with 2-amino-3-hydroxypyridine (AHP) in presence of quinoline to form a ternary complex suitable for spectrophotometric determination of the metal at pH 1.2—3.0. The complex is formed on heating the reactants on a water bath for 45 minutes. It shows A max at 540 nm (molar absorptivity 1.05 x104 L. mol-1. cm""1) and obeys Beer's law upto 22 ppm of ruthenium concentration. The optimum working range is found to be from 0.4 to 20 ppm of ruthenium. The complex contains the constituents in 1:2:2 ratio (Ru-AHP-quinohne). In the determination, many cations and anions including metal ions from iron and platinum groups do not interfere.
