Monocalcium aluminate (CA) is the major hydraulic phase in the calcium aluminate cements (CAC). Solid solution of Ca_1-xSr_xAl₂O₄may be formed if the cement raw materials are impure with Sr mineral. This study aims to understand the hydration of Ca_1-xSr_xAl₂O₄. The nature, crystallinity and microstructure of hydrated phases were identified using scanning electron microscopy (SEM-EDX), thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and infrared spectroscopy (IR Spectroscopy). There is a strong indication that the hydration produces a mixture of Ca_1-xSr_xAl₂(OH)₁₂ and AH₃.
