Abstract:
4-Phenyl / or benzyl-1(2H)-phthalazinone (I)a & b were prepared. Acetyiation of (I)a produced a mixture of (II) and (III), which was transformed completely to (II). Condensation of 4* phenyl-l(2H)- 2N-acety)phthalozinone (II) either with acid anhydride / or acid imide gave the same product, thus, (II) was condensed with, succinic anhydride or succinimide affording (IV), with phthalic anhydride or phthalimide producing (V) and with maleic anhydride gave (VI). Further more, (II) was condensed with some aromatic aldehydes affording the 2N-cinnamoyl-1(2H)-phthalazinone derivatives (Vll)a-c. With formaldehyde in presence of benzamide, phthalimide* and/or phenols (I)a and/or b gave the corresponding Mannich bases (VIII)a & b, (IX)a & b and (X)a& b respectively.
