Abstract:

5-Chloro-2, 4-dihydroxypropiophenone oxime (CDHPOX) has been successfully employed as a reagent for the colorimentric and complexometric determination of Fe in various drugs. The composition of the complex 1 : 1 (metal : ligand) has been confirmed by various spectro-photometric methods. CDHPOX forms violet coloured complex with Fe(III) at pH 2.5-3.2 having λ max. 500 nm. Beer's law is obeyed in the concentration range of 1 to 20 μg. The stability constant of the complex was found to be 6.112 x 103. Sensitivity on Sandell scale is 0.0263 μg. Limits of interference due to the presence of various foreign ions have also been determined.
