Abstract:
2-styryl-quinazolones 2 a-j are obtained by condensation of 2-methyl-3 (aryl)-4 (1H) quinazolones 1 with different aldehydes. Thermal reaction of tetrachloro-o-benzoquinone with compounds 2 a-g yielded the "Michael adducts" 1, 4-benzodioxins 3. However, the quinone with compounds 2 h-j, is found to undergo selective cyclo-addition to the 4, 5 C-C double bond of the furyl moiety and thus yielding the ortho-phenylenedioxy-stryrylquinazoIones 4, I. R., u. v., and 1Hnmr spectral determinations for the synthesized products are discussed.
