Abstract:

Studies have been made on the kinetics and sorption of Cl- and Br- on Vaxion AD(OH-) using a modified limited batch technique. The influence of organic solvent concentration particle size of the exchanger, and temperature have been studied. The slowest step govering the exchange rate is found to be the diffusion within the exchanger particles at higher concentrations. The effective diffusion coefficients have been computed at three different temperatures 25°, 50° and 75°C and found to be comparised of mainly two components. The sorption of the two anions art 'markedly influenced by the organic solvent (dielectric constant) of concentration of the equilibrated medium Using an equation of Arrhenius, the activation energy was found to be Ea—3.454* 4.300,3.383 and 3.889 K. caL/mole in pure aqueoius medium for Cl- and Br- anions respectively. The exchange rate computed was found to be increases with the least diameter in particle size of the exchanger, while increases with increasing of reaction temperature.
