Abstract

Effect of Some Glycine Derivatives on the Dissolution I of Copper in Nitric Acid

A. N. El-Neami and A. S. Fouda

Abstract:

The use of some glycine derivatives as corrosion inhibitors of copper in 3N nitric acid was studied by thermometric and galvanostatic polarization methods. The two methods gave consistent results. Polarization data suggest that in the case of these inhibitors the anode is preferentially polarized under the influence of an external current. The results indicate that the additives reduce the corrosion rate by either removal of HNO2 formed or by the adsorption through the carbonyl group. The inhibitory character of the compounds depends upon the concentration of the inhibtor, as well as its chemical composition.
