Abstract:

The relationship between iron status and resistance to infection has excited considerable interest and controversy. Total iron, iron blading capacity and pecent saturation was measured to assess their importance and possible role in eases of hepatic amoebiasis and amoebic liver abscess. Iron overload seems to be responsible for increased susceptibility to hepatic amoebiasis as well as amoebic liver abscess. Elevated TIBC leves found is most cases of amoebic liver abscess might be due to distruction of liver cells. The findings were discussed critically.
