Abstract

S-(4-Chlorobenzyl) N,N-Diethyl - Thiocarbamate Induced Inhibition of No3- and NH4+ Uptake in Nostoc Linckia

A. K. Pandey and R. N. Mishra

Abstract:

NH4+ and No3- uptake In the cyanobacterium Nostoc linckia and interaction with the herbicide Increasing concentrations of saturn resulted in the subsequent inhibition of both NH4+ and NO3-. The uptake kinetics was studied by monitoring short term uptake rates at varying substrate levels. The values of Vmax (maximum uptake capacity) and Km (half saturation constant) were obtained using double reciprocal plot . The NH4+ uptake, as such, was found more sensitive to saturn than No3- uptake. As fairly low levels of saturn were sufficient to inhibit the process significantly .The pattern of uptake inhibition with saturn was found to be competetive for No3- and noncompetetive to NH4+.
