Abstract:

The present investigation reveals that the non cellulosic polysaccharides isolated from Ipomea camea Jacq contains approximately 91 % of xylopyranose units out of total 9% of N.C.P. present in the plant. The present studies deals with the oxidation of N. C .P. units by using sodium meta periodate, it reveals that the account of formic acid obtained during periodate oxidation of N.C.P. of Ipomea camea Jacq was estimated. It may be persumed on the basis of the periodate studies of N.C.P. of Ipomea camea that 91% of xylopyranose containes adjacent free hydroxyl groups while remaining 9% of the xylopyranose do not contain free hydroxyl group which indicates the occurence of branching. The amount of formic acid originated from reducing and non-reducing terminal units of xylopyranose was also determined.
