Abstract

Principal Component Analysis of Some Non-Metals Distribution in Plant Materials Belonging to Compositae. Labiatae and Rosaceae Families

Marek Wesolowski And Pawel Konieczynski

Abstract:

Concentrations of nitrogen, phosphorus, sulphur, chlorine and iodine were determined in 70 raw plant materials (herbs, leaves, flowers, inflorescences, anthodium, fruits, roots and rhizomes) originating from 33 species of medicinal plants belonging to Compositae, Labiatae and Rosaceae families. The analysed material contained several ug of iodine, from several hundred ug to several mg of sulphur and phosphorus, and from several mg to some tens of mg of chlorine and nitrogen per gram of dry mass. For complex interpretation of the obtained data the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was applied. As a result of calculations, the distribution of investigated plants in multidimensional space indicates some rules about levels of non-metals in particular plant species and families, as well as it makes possible to determine relations, in which studied elements occur in the analysed material.
