Abstract

Kinetics of the Photodecomposition of Malonic Acid

N. Sahoo

Abstract:

The photodecomposition of malonic acid in the presence of sodium tungstate (used as sensitizer) under nitrogen laser irradiation shows that the decomposition is a function of the concentration of malonic acid (10-1-10-5M), the concentration of sodium tungstate (20mM-100mM) and temperatures (298k and 308k). The pH of the process follows the let order rate law. The energy of activations estimated show that the rate of malonate Ion decomposition is found to be much more higher than that of the malonic acid. The overall decomposition proceeds via two routes.
